- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- In a large bowl, combine the cake mix, melted butter, and eggs until well blended.
- Press two-thirds of the mixture into the bottom of the prepared baking dish to form the crust.
- In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream over medium heat until steaming. Remove from heat and stir in the chocolate chips until smooth and melted.
- Pour the chocolate mixture evenly over the cake crust.
- In another bowl, whisk together the vanilla pudding mix and cold milk until thickened, about 2 minutes.
- Spread the pudding mixture evenly over the chocolate layer.
- Drop spoonfuls of the remaining cake mixture evenly over the pudding layer.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Allow to cool completely on a wire rack.
- Once cooled, spread whipped cream or whipped topping over the bars.
- Refrigerate for at least 1 hour before cutting into bars and serving.
