Decadent Boston Cream Pie Bars

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the cake mix, melted butter, and  eggs until well blended.
  3. Press two-thirds of the mixture into the bottom of the prepared baking dish to form the crust.
  4. In a small saucepan, heat the heavy  cream over medium heat until steaming. Remove from heat and stir in the  chocolate chips until smooth and melted.
  5. Pour the  chocolate mixture evenly over the cake crust.
  6. In another bowl, whisk together the vanilla  pudding mix and cold milk until thickened, about 2 minutes.
  7. Spread the pudding mixture evenly over the chocolate layer.
  8. Drop spoonfuls of the remaining cake mixture evenly over the pudding layer.
  9. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  10. Allow to cool completely on a wire rack.
  11. Once cooled, spread whipped  cream or whipped topping over the bars.
  12. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour before cutting into bars and serving.
