INGREDIENTS
FOR THE CAKE
- 3 cups all purpose flour
- 1 Tbsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp kosher salt
- 1-3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 sticks, or 1 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
- 4 large eggs
- 2 tsp almond extract
- 1-1/4 cup half-and-half (or whole milk, or buttermilk)
FOR THE BLACKBERRY BUTTERCREAM
- 3 sticks, or 1-1/2 cups unsalted butter, room temperature
- 5 cups powdered sugar, sifted
- 4-6 Tbsp blackberry puree, see note below
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 Tbsp half-and-half or milk
FOR THE GARNISH
- 1/2 cup sliced almonds
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup fresh blackberries
