Ingredients
1 large head of cabbage
1 lb ground beef or ground pork
1 cup cooked rice
1 onion, chopped
1 egg
2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper
1 can tomatoes (15 oz)
1 can tomato sauce (8 oz)
2 tbsp brown sugar
Directions
1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
2. Fill a big pot with water and bring it to a boil. Gently place your cabbage in and let it cook for about 5 minutes, just until the leaves are nice and tender. Carefully remove the leaves and let them cool a bit so you can handle them easily.
3. In a large bowl, combine the ground meat, cooked rice, chopped onion, egg, salt, and pepper. Mix it all together until everything’s well blended.
4. Take a cabbage leaf, spoon some of the meat mixture onto the center, and roll it up, making sure to tuck in the sides as you go. Repeat with the rest of the filling and cabbage leaves.
5. Pour a layer of tomatoes and about half the tomato sauce into the bottom of a baking dish.
6. Arrange the cabbage rolls seam side down in the dish, fitting them snugly together.
7. Pour the rest of the tomato sauce over the top and sprinkle everything with the brown sugar.
8. Cover your dish with foil and bake for 1 hour.
9. Serve your cabbage rolls hot and enjoy the comforting flavors
