Homemade Seafood Gumbo

2

Ingredients

4

1/2 cup vegetable oil

1/2 cup all-purpose flour

1 onion, diced

1 bell pepper, diced

2 celery stalks, diced

4 cloves garlic, minced

6 cups chicken broth

2 cups okra, sliced

1 lb shrimp, peeled and deveined

1 lb crab meat

1 lb smoked sausage, sliced

2 bay leaves

1 tablespoon Cajun seasoning

Salt and pepper to taste

Cooked rice, for serving

Chopped green onions and parsley for garnish

Directions

1. Set a large pot over medium heat and pour in the vegetable oil. Sprinkle the flour into the oil, then stir continuously. Let the mixture cook until it becomes a beautiful dark brown, forming your flavorful roux.

2. Add in the diced onion, bell pepper, celery, and garlic. Stir everything together and cook until the veggies have softened and smell wonderful.

3. Slowly pour in the chicken broth while stirring. This helps keep your gumbo nice and smooth without any lumps.

4. Add the sliced okra, bay leaves, Cajun seasoning, and smoked sausage. Give everything a good stir and let it simmer for 30 minutes, stirring now and then.

5. Gently stir in the shrimp and crab meat, cooking just until the shrimp turns pink and the seafood is cooked through.

6. Taste your gumbo and season it with salt and pepper as needed.

7. Serve the gumbo hot over a bed of fluffy cooked rice. Finish it off with a generous sprinkle of chopped green onions and parsley right before serving.
